International Driving permit - Do I need one? Click HERE
Anyone standing on the hard shoulder on most European motorways or roads must be wearing a high visibility vest/jacket according to driving regulations. This means rider and pillion. Heavy fines can be imposed dependant on which country you are in.
When traveling abroad you should always have a GB sticker on your motorbike denoting country of origin or ‘euro’ registration plates featuring the GB initials. After brexit Euro plates may be null and void.
Europe wide requirements
If you’ve got a GPS-based navigation system (Sat Nav) with maps that can show the location of fixed speed cameras, you must have the ‘fixed speed camera PoI (Points of Interest)’ function deactivated and ideally removed. It’s forbidden carry, transport or use radar detectors in France and a few other European countries. You could be fined up to 1500 Euros and have your vehicle and/or the device confiscated.
If you are riding your own bike then there is a good chance your insurance will only pay out if you have some security on your bike. From a basic chain to tracking and an immobiliser, anything is better than nothing. It all depends on how much you value your bike, how much space you have and more importantly how much money you have. Think, do you want to have to arrange an expensive flight home?
